Storing Material On-Site

Paints, Stains, Solvents, Cement Bags, and Other Material

  • Keep job-site materials out of the rain. Store both dry and wet materials undercover, protected from rainfall and runoff.
  • Secure dry materials and open cement bags to prevent powders and cement dust from becoming windblown and ending up in streets, gutters, storm drains and runoff.
  • Store job-site materials such as paints, brushes, rags and other supplies inside rigid, durable, watertight containers with tight fitting covers. Inspect containers on a regular basis.
  • Ideally, construction materials such as paints, solvents, and cement will be stored and mixed inside a building. When inside storage is not practical, a temporary structure can be built to contain potential spills and container leaks. This temporary structure should be covered with plastic sheeting and secured at the end of the day to protect it from adverse weather conditions.
