Mutt Mitt Doggie Rest Stations

Mutt Mitt Station Bloedel Donovan
Mutt Mitt stations were introduced in 2000 with the installation of eight stations within the Lake Whatcom watershed where tests indicated that fecal coliform levels exceeded acceptable standards nearby creeks and streams (e.g Silver Beach Creek, Cable Creek, and Austin Creek). Stations were also installed in parks and along trails frequented by dog owners to minimize pet waste in those areas.
The stations consist of a dispenser with “Mutt Mitt” bags for scooping the poop, informational signage and, in some areas, a trash can for easy disposal.
Approximately 12,000 Mutt Mitts were dispensed in the first year of the project, resulting in an estimated removal of 9.7 trillion fecal coliform colonies from the Lake Whatcom watershed.

The cost for the dispenser runs approximately $60 and a case of 800 Mutt Mitts costs $58.00. Generally, an average of two cases per year should be adequate for a neighborhood.
