The Community and Lake Protection

The Lake Whatcom watershed is located in Whatcom County in the northwest corner of Washington State. Lake Whatcom serves as the drinking water source for over 85,000 county residents, about half the county’s population.

In a multi-use watershed with many individual property owners, lake protection must occur on a number of different levels involving many different individuals and organizations such as:

  • Government Entities
  • Watershed Landowners and Residents
  • Recreational Users
  • Drinking Water Customers
  • Students and Teachers
  • Non-Profit and Citizen Groups

This website has been designed as a resource for all of these groups. It includes basic facts about the lake and watershed, a description of the Lake Whatcom Management Program and its progress, and stewardship actions that individuals can pursue to reduce their own impacts to the lake.
