Safe Driving
- Driving within posted speed limits reduces wear and tear on your tires increases fuel efficiency.
- Check your tire pressure often as under-inflated tires can result in reduced gas mileage.
- Shut off your engine when waiting for friends or family to prevent excess exhaust production. It’s best to park the car and walk into a restaurant, coffee shop, or bank rather than idling in the drive-thru lane.
- Avoid “warming up” the car in the morning. According to ASE, today’s cars are designed to warm up quickly and do not require warming up.
Commuter Facts
- Statewide, the introduction of the Commute Trip Reduction program removes approximately 20,000 vehicles from the road each morning. This results in a reduction of 5,000 tons of air pollution each year!
- Whatcom County CTR removes approximately 329 vehicles from the roads each day. This is equivalent to a single lane of traffic on I-5 from Bellingham to Ferndale.
- There are 259 miles of sidewalks in Bellingham!
